What is eBay?

eBay is a fundamentally simple concept. It is the internet's flea market, where buyers offer the amount they're willing to pay for a desired item. Setting up and using an eBay account is extremly simple. However, there are certain tricks and techniques you can use to make your life on eBay easier.

Using the right email

When first creating your eBay account, you are required to give some sort of verification. For a $5 fee, eBay will verify you by mailing you a letter, then asking you to enter the code on the letter on the website. Else, signing up with a credit card will also prove to eBay that you verified. To get past both of these, simply register with an email from an ISP. Don't use free email accounts like hotmail or gmail, but use the email account that comes with your internet package (ie. youremail@rogers.com).

Payment Options

Before purchasing items on eBay, always make sure you have enough cash readily available on the internet to pay for your expenses. The easiest to use and most reliable way to pay for your eBay expenditures is through paypal. To sign up for a free account, simply go to Paypal.com. Paypal accounts can be upgraded from free to business. This would mean that Paypal starts taking a cut of all money that comes your way. Even though this might not sound very enticing, it's a neccessity if you want to start selling on eBay.

Once you've created a paypal account, simply put money into it by either registering a credit card, or withdrawing money from your bank account. Take note that the latter process takes a few days to complete, and you should never bid until you're sure you'll have the money when you need to pay. Paypal is the most common form for transferring money on eBay, and is a must for any buyer or seller. Some users will only sell to verified users of paypal. To become verified, simply log in and follow the instructions at Paypal.com. Note that setting up a working paypal account usually takes a few days, and should be made well before your first purchase.
